Description
This mandolin is in Very-Good Condition showing only normal wear & tear for a nearly century old mandolin with minor nicks/dings/scratches throughout. There has been a couple repairs made on this instrument though. There was a small crack on the headstock as well as some separation near the endpin, Both of these issues have been repaired by a professional luthier. There is also a separation repair that’s visible on the back and body located on the lower bout. This repair was also performed by our professional luthier, however it was decided not to finish over the repair as to not harm the original finish. Included is what appears to be the original or period correct hardshell case by Geib & Schaefer with green lining, this case in Good-Condition for its age all latches work but the exterior and interior have degraded a bit (more so the exterior)
We believe this instrument to have been built somewhere after 1928 but before 1935. The label is a Washburn/Tonk Brothers which started being used in 1928-onward, However, this model also features the Lyon & Healy tail-piece which tells us that NOS parts were still being used at the time this mandolin was constructed. Not much else is known about this instrument, if you have any further knowledge regarding this item and would like to share, please feel free to message us
