Join New York bassist and songwriter Zoe Guigeno, along with Miami’s own bluegrass ambassador, Max Schwartz, for a night of progressive acoustic music and moving songwriting. (feel free to add in more here if you like)
ZOE GUIGENO:
An islander from the west coast of Canada, Zoe Guigueno is a versatile musician who lives in New York City and tours the world playing bass & singing. Her dad listened to Neil Young, Randy Newman and Van Morrison; her mom listened to Tracy Chapman, Lauryn Hill and Queen. Combined with community-potluck-Rise-Up-Singing jams, and discovering Dave Holland on the radio at age 12, Zoe’s musical tastes unfurled in many directions throughout her childhood.
While the upright bass is her primary instrument, she has written countless songs and instrumental pieces on the guitar and piano. Her debut solo recording, Five Songs, was released in September 2018, after a three-year studio collaboration with Brooklyn-based producer Alec Spiegelman. Zoe has a new album in the pipes, to be released spring 2020.
MAX SCHWARTZ:
Max Schwartz is a musician and composer from Boston, now based in Miami, and is highly-acclaimed as both a bluegrass and jazz musician. Formerly the bass player for Laurie Lewis and the Rights Hands, he has been called “an acoustic master” by the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse, has won awards from Downbeat Magazine for both jazz performance and composition, is a two-time member of the GRAMMY® Jazz Combo, and was the winner of the 2019 Rockygrass Banjo Competition.
Recently, he has recorded with John Reischman, Molly Tuttle, and Alex Hargreaves. You can see him around Miami performing with his band, the Miami Cowboys, as well as frequenting Lagniappe, or playing Soya e Pomodoro with Yamit Lemoine and the Vinyl Blvd on Fridays.
Also idolizing California country artists such as Buck Owens and Merle Haggard, Max plays the B-bender Telecaster and incorporates a wide variety of sounds and eras of music.
