SUMMARY:Greg Cahill Banjo Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Workshop is open to all banjo players. We will discuss exploring the fingerboard and shortcuts for connecting chord positions and progressions. An overview of Scruggs style\, melodic style and single string style will be presented\, with thoughts about integrating licks in these different styles when creating solos. Q&A about any banjo related topics will be included as time permits. We will have fun! \nChicago born and bred\, Greg Cahill has been playing bluegrass banjo since the early 1970s; he formed The Special Consensus in 1975. That means he’s been making a living with his banjo for 35 years. He tours with his band year-round nationally and internationally. He has composed many banjo instrumentals and released three solo albums featuring his unique style: “Lone Star” (1980) with guests Jethro Burns and Byron Berline\, “Blue Skies” (1992) with fellow Chicagoan Don Stiernberg\, and “Night Skies” (1998) with Don and guests Sam Bush\, Glen Duncan and Tom Boyd. He has appeared on all fifteen(!) Special Consensus recordings—the first two on Chicago labels (Tin Ear Music and Acoustic Revival)\, four on Kentucky-based Turquoise Records\, one on Special C’s Shy Town Music label\, seven on Pinecastle Records\, and the latest\, “35\,” on Compass Records (the recording includes six original songs by the current band lineup and six songs from previous Special C recordings now out of print. \nBanjo Workshop 4-5:30 PM $50 \nBUY TICKETS HERE \nSpecial Consensus In Concert will follow at 7pm \n

SUMMARY:Special Consensus Live In Concert
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nThe Special Consensus is a bluegrass band that has achieved a contemporary sound in their four decades of performing\, making their music a modern classic. The band is led by Greg Cahill (banjo player and recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) and inducted into the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America Hall of Greats) and includes Dan Eubanks (bass)\, Greg Blake (guitar) and Michael Prewitt (mandolin). Special Consensus has received six awards from the IBMA and two Grammy nominations. They are four talented vocalists and instrumentalists who follow their creative desires without straying too far from their bluegrass roots. The 19th band recording\, Rivers and Roads (Compass Records\, 2018)\, was nominated for the 2018 Best Bluegrass Album GRAMMY award and received 2018 IBMA awards for Album of the Year and Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year (for the tune “Squirrel Hunters”). Chicago Barn Dance\, released by Compass Records in 2020\, is the 20th Special C recording that celebrates both the 45th band anniversary and the long-standing connection of country and bluegrass music with Chicago from the time of the WLS “National Barn Dance” that was a precursor to the Grand Ole Opry. The songs on this recording relate to Chicago and/or are written by artists who once lived in Chicago. The title song “Chicago Barn Dance” received the 2020 IBMA Song of the Year Award. \n  \nBuy Tickets HERE $25
