He grew up in a musical family and started appearing regularly on the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville TN when he was 18 years old. A 13-time IBMA award winning\, a Grammy nominee\, and induction into the order of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine. Darren\, known for his mandolin and vocal work\, has recorded and performed with everyone from Merle Haggard\, Tony Rice\, Rhonda Vincent\, and Zac Brown. He spends most of his time now recording\, writing songs and performing live all across the country. He’s penned five of the recent #1 songs in bluegrass music. He describes his band as “Roots Music in Overdrive” and “Torch Bearers for Authentic Music”. Lots of people know Darren as a longtime\, founding member of Balsam Range. On record – including their latest offering\, 2023’s Lead and Iron\, released via Dark Shadow Recording – the band explores their collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. While bluegrass is the undeniable foundation of the Prowlers music\, the band bends and squeezes the traditional form into a keenly developed sound all their own. \nWorking with the U.S. State Department and under their own nonprofit\, Bluegrass Ambassadors\, the Prowlers have toured over 25 countries across the globe.
