SUMMARY:Escaping Pavement in Concert and Vocal and Mandolin Workshop
DESCRIPTION:  \nhttps://youtu.be/dFPRuAlnubg \n  \n \nDetroit Music Award Winners for Outstanding Americana Recording 2017 (The Night Owl) \n2017 Official Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance Region Midwest Confernce \n2018 Official Showcase Artist at Listening Room Network Festival \nFrom Detroit to Pasadena\, to the high seas and then back to Detroit; it’s only when the Detroit-Music-Award-winning\, singer/songwriter duo Emily Burns and Aaron Markovitz escaped the neon blitz and car-strewn concrete of the city that they discovered how well their music could bloom when they brought it back to the roots. There is so much life and vitality in the Americana-folk journeys of Escaping Pavement\, sprung entirely from an acoustic guitar\, a mandolin\, and two voices. Fiery passion\, wistful reflection\, awestruck adventurousness\, and heartstring-plucking poignancy\, the duo discovers\, through song\, the range of human emotion and celebrates the purities of what we’ve left behind for the artifices of tech trends\, drug stores and cacophonous city centers. \nTheir romance together came only after they started singing songs together\, having met in 2005\, as teenagers\, at an open-mic night. From there\, they would continue collaborating in several other bands together\, but they stepped up their game when they both got accepted to the Los Angeles College of Music. When they graduated\, they hopped a cruise ship as part of a band running through covers of Top 40’s hits for waltzing baby-boomers. They came back to Detroit\, but discovered that after two years of singing songs together on that cruise ship\, for four hours a day\, seven days a week\, their singing voices had become fused into a perfect harmony. \n  \nHere is the info for the workshops:\n\nVocal Workshop:\n\n\nHow to Sing with others\nMain focus: To inform others on the different techniques and approaches that will make singing with other people fun and exciting.\n\nbullet points:\n-How you hold the shape of your mouth on the inside and outside affecting intonation\n-the different sounds we can make with vowels\n-starting and ending words together\n-vocal slides\n-arrangement of vocals throughout a song\n-basic harmony for two and three parts\n-demonstrations of all of the above!\n\nMandolin Workshop\n\nMandolin Playing:\nMain focus: To provide tips for the beginner to advanced mandolin player on how to improve their skills in the technical and musical realms.\n\nbullet points:\n-left hand technique\, fingering of basic chords and different voicings\n-chopping\, it’s usefulness and effectiveness\, and the mandolin’s role in a traditional bluegrass setting\n-right hand technique focusing on a few different picking techniques\n-Crash course on the history of modern mandolin playing with a focus on Bill Monroe\n-Thinking outside the box for mandolin inspiration-taking licks from artists that don’t play bluegrass or mandolin and applying them to a bluegrass context\n\n\nBuy Concert Tickets Here\n\nBuy Vocal Workshop Here\n\nBuy Mandolin Workshop Here\n\nBuy 1 Workshop and Concert Here

SUMMARY:Stary Olsa in Concert
DESCRIPTION:High energy Early Music on real medieval instruments If rock-n-roll had been invented 500 years ago\, Stary Olsa is what it would sound like. In 1999\, Zmicier Sasnouski of Minsk\, Belarus\, brought together a diverse group of musicians\, some classically trained and some self taught\, who shared a common love of history. They set out to revive some traditional instruments of their homeland\, which had faded from the public eye during the Soviet era. Soon\, historians all over Europe were sending them historic songs from archives\, so these ancient favorites could be heard again just as they were 500 years ago. Like many bands\, Stary Olsa’s roster shifted until it settled on the current line-up\, which includes bagpipes\, flutes\, shaums\, lute\, rebec\, tromba marina\, and percussion (including wooden shoes)\, with front man Aleys Chumakov belting out vocals in Belarusian. Stary Olsa has recorded thirteen albums of popular European dances\, rowdy Slavic drinking songs\, epic tales of knights and victory\, and tender ballads from knights to their ladies-in-waiting. They also produced a fan-demand album of Classic Rock cover songs\, after their medieval version of Metallica’s “One” went viral. Until you’ve heard “Iron Man” performed on the hurdy-gurdy\, your life is just not complete. Today’s hits are but “a small stop on a long musical continuum.” Stary Olsa shows just how much our current music owes to its medieval roots. Come listen to living history and party like it’s 1199! \nIllya Kublicki (cisters\, lute) \nAleys Chumakou (gusli\, rebec\, hurdygurdy\, \nshawms\, vocals) \nMaria Sharyi (flutes\, shawms) \nAlexei Voitsekh (percussion) \nZmicer Sasnouski (Belarusan bagpipe\, \nvocals) \nSergei Tapcheuski (percussion) \nwww.staryolsa.com \n  \nBuy Tickets HERE $15 \n  \n
